If you’ve had the pleasure of driving down a rural road on an early summer evening, off the beaten path of divided lanes and high-speed straightaways, you likely know the feeling that there are views along the way that catch the eye ever so briefly. The often-twisty road with its asphalt edges breaking up into pebbles that blend with a narrow shoulder lined with tall grasses that sway as you pass force you to keep your eyes ahead, only stealing glimpses of the scenery here and there. The pace is slower here, yet still the views are gone by in an instant. It is those views which often compel me to pull over, turn around, and come back to check if what I thought I saw was indeed the scenic picture of rural history that speaks of hay fields, horses, sheep, cows, and the machinery and structures that worked to keep it all moving. This old farm tractor was spotted, parked one day beside a rugged barn at the end of a day’s work, perhaps not knowing it was parking for the last time. There it would sit, providing fleeting glimpses to passing motorists of a history that built communities and sustained its people.

“Old Farmer” is offered as a limited edition of 10 prints in a 12 x 18 format. Printed on smooth matte this image will provide textured softness that brings the viewer back.
