Nova Scotia’s rugged coastline is experienced along the Eastern Shore through beaches, harbors, coves, and roadside views a-plenty. In the small community of Pleasant Point near West Jeddore the road meanders along the seaside. This is so often a feature I seek in my work, as it speaks to my soul somehow. Seeing a house built out on a rocky point, well away from the road and with no obvious means of access, I of course needed to stop. Finding a spot where a guardrail ended and the shoulder of the road dipped down to the gravelly beach, I began my walk, looking at this building and wondering how it came to be in such a spot. Perched at the edge of the sea, but with no road access, no clear path, no waterside jetty. Just a rocky beach leading the eye, and the imagination to this building. Its rooms all filled with views of grassy fields to one side, a wave swept rocky beach to the other. It invites you and asks you to imagine being there to watch sun rises, fishing boats heading out, or returning from their work, birds in the breezes, and deer grazing in the grass. The place appears used for storage now, but its construction tells of a different past beside the shore.
“A Room With a View” is offered as a limited edition of 10 prints formatted in 12 x 18. Its subtle colours will appreciate a lustre finish.
