In Springtime when the weather is cool and the fog comes in, I am drawn to the shore where the rugged coastline reveals itself more slowly, and perhaps with a sense of mystery. Things that can be found sometimes are curious and sometimes harken back to earlier times. Lives lived by generations past along this seaside have left hints and clues to be found. On a rocky beach with waves crashing not far from where rocks turn to grass and the beach transforms into a scene suggestive of coastal farming, I spotted this partial skeleton of rust and rubber poking out of the ground. Fallen trees around, deeply weathered, but not quite driftwood. Deep, intriguing textures with components of steel rusting and fading in the weather over time. It is often the questions that set me to the task of framing a composition like this. Seeing what appears to be the remains of an old truck rear end sticking out of the earth this way raises such questions. I couldn’t answer them, but I had to capture this curiously juxtaposed relic by the shore and create an image that I hope will leave the viewer with a question or two as well.
"Rubber & Rust" is offered as a limited edition of 10 prints and is formatted to an 8 x 10 ratio. It will present nicely on smoothe matte for a softer, slightly textured look, or on lustre for a smooter, slightly glossy feel.
